What will be your toughest Matchup in the top 8?
Probably the R/S tetzot deck. I am going to rely heavily on my martyrs and vampires to get rid of the azurefates and race him.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
I have been playing Hex for well over a year now, it’s my first competitive game although I have some mtg experience.

Favorite shard combination?
Blood/Diamond seems to be the primary contender for that right now. Although the R/S combination is very interesting as well.

Favorite Quote?
the flavor text on Darkspire Tyrant. I think it speaks for itself why.

Anything else we should know?
If you lose you have to blame it on kismet

Hard to say for sure, Nononsense is for sure no joke other then that DarkShadows deck was scary good from what I saw of it.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
This is my 4th month of playing and I am totally free 2 play, no competitive gaming experience.

Favorite shard combination?
Mono Blood, got to love that purple!

Favorite Quote?

What will be your toughest Matchup in the top 8?
Chimera’s sacrifice deck beat me in the swiss rounds. He has a lot of hand hate so he’s able to remove some my biggest threats before I can play them. Additionally, his troops are made to die so I have to be careful swinging in, even with a superior board, in case he’s able to drop and sac tyrant.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
I’m a Kickstarter backer and I’ve been playing since the Alpha. While I haven’t always been able to play and theory-craft as often as I’d like, I make sure to get a couple drafts in weekly and participate in as many community events as I can. I can also be found lurking in several Hex streams regularly.

I’ve competed in every FiveShards tournament I’ve been available for and a few of the ESL events. Hex is the first game I’ve attempted to play competitively. Despite being a long time gamer, I’ve always stuck to playing casual.

Favorite shard combination?
I play a lot of Blood/Diamond or Mono-Blood. There are so many different styles of deck that can be made using Blood. Control, spiders, lifegain, sacrifice, discard, etc. There’s always another interaction to test out.

Favorite Quote?
Great minds discuss ideas;
Average minds discuss events;
Small minds discuss people.
– Eleanor Roosevelt

Anything else we should know?
Always enjoy the tournaments, podcasts, and articles! Thanks!!!

Occupation
Stock Trader

Deck Name
Bloodcore

What will be your toughest Matchup in the top 8?
After picking up my only lose from Nononsense’s R/S deck in the swiss rounds I’m worried about a rematch.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
I’ve been playing Hex since it was little more than a twinkle in Cory’s eye.

I haven’t really played any other game competitively, but I’ve been flopping cards of many sorts for about 20 years.

Favorite shard combination?
My favorite decks all seem to include Blood. I blame the designers for making so many good Blood cards.

Favorite Quote?
“You should be serious when you fill out the survey. You don’t want everyone who looks at the top 8 to know you’re a jackass.” – Trystan

Deck Name
Banking on Blood

What will be your toughest Matchup in the top 8?
I think Nononsense’s ruby sapphire deck will be the toughest match up. My blood diamond control deck is more of a “tap out” control deck and interacting on my opponent’s turn isn’t a strength of the deck.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
I was lucky enough to see the Kickstarter and have been playing since they let us they us see “how the sausage is made”.

Back in high school I played in a lot of chess tournaments, but had limited success there. I’ve tried just about every digital and physical card game that I’ve seen though. There’s just something about collecting and playing card games that I love!

Favorite shard combination?
Blood/Diamond is my favorite combination, although I do like blood/sapphire as well. I enjoy undoing everything my opponent has done and then riding a marginal advantage to victory. Stealing cards from my opponent’s hand with vampires is also quite satisfying.

Favorite Quote?
“I don’t care that they stole my idea. I care that they don’t have any of their own.”
― Nikola Tesla

Anything else about you we should know?
I always enjoy the articles and podcasts on the site. Keep up the good work!

What will be your toughest Matchup in the top 8?
Soul Marble is a tough card to play against so that’s my biggest fear and also an early Angel of Dawn is very rough if you don’t have the right cards in hand at the moment.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
I have been playing HEX for almost a year and i have been playing a lot of competetive drafts and constructed but not so many tournaments. Before hex i played both Magic the Gathering and World of Warcraft tcg so i have some experience from tcgs from before. I have played other games also but thoose are the most look alike games i have played.

Favorite shard combination?
Blood, Sapphire

Favorite Quote?
It’s not easy when it’s hard.

What will be your toughest Matchup in the top 8?
Majesty! Oh wait…Well…I guess i take the coin flip against the Blood and Blood/Diamond then.

How long have you been playing Hex/other games?
I’ve been playing seriously for a month or so, mainly limited. Some TCG experience but only on a casual level but looking forward to the competitive site.

Favorite shard combination?
Well, in general I don’t tend to pick favorite shards/colors. I always try to find the deck with the highest winrate. So it all depends on the current meta and there is surely no clear path in times like this where everyone is experimenting and finding the pillars of the format.

But let’s say it with Patrick Chapin’s words:
“…we all eventually reach the point in our lives where we realize we’re blue mages.”

Favorite Quote?
“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
And the wisdom to know the difference.”
– Reinhold Niebuhr

Anything else we should know about you?
Team White Phoenix for the win!

And of course never forget:

Face is the Place! 😉

  1. This is a great feature 🙂 Really helps connect with the competitive scene and the players. Hope it persists.

    • Glad that you enjoyed it Chocmaw. I think we will try to make this a standard feature for every cup; we will see if there are ways we can improve it as well, so thoughts are welcomed.
