I was given the privilege to spoil something truly amazing. I present to you, C.A.G.E.!
Aha! It is finally here! I remember when we first got a glimpse of this card’s art during The Pack article’s thumbnail. For a second there I thought that this card was not going to be in this set. Enough about the art, let’s get into the good stuff!
First, let me remind you of all the possible Boons that you can get:
- Rage: 1
A 7/7 for 7 is a decent body, but there definitely needs to be an upside for such a high costing troop. Fortunately, adding random Boons to all troops on your side of the field when C.A.G.E. enters play as well as all troops that you play while C.A.G.E. is on the field spells D.O.O.M. Not only that we were also fortunate enough to get a spoiler from TheMotivation that pairs quite well with C.A.G.E.
So how will C.A.G.E. fair in Constructed, Limited, and Immortal?
Although we have not seen all the cards from Frostheart yet, we are going to want a ramp or control deck that gets C.A.G.E. out fairly consistently. A deck which makes use of both ramp and control is BW Horrors of War control deck. This will make every Dreadling you create get a Boon when it enters play. Could also be a little fun with C.A.G.E. Bomb as well.
The other deck we mentioned was a ramp deck. Since RW is the theme of The Pack, we hope to see that there are some ramping options available to use to hopefully get C.A.G.E. out quicker.
In my opinion, it is going to be difficult to play C.A.G.E. in constructed, but I wouldn’t count it out depending on the spoilers we may get in the future.
As opposed to its constructed counterpart, C.A.G.E. in Limited is a force to be reckoned with. C.A.G.E. is a huge bomb that can easily turn the tide of the battle especially if both players are currently at a stalemate. Once C.A.G.E. hits the board you will be at an advantage since the rest of your troops on board will gain Boons. Getting a Swiftstrike on a troop with Flight, or even flight itself is sometimes all you need to get through or put pressure on your opponent.
The Immortal format is fast, but I think there can be room for C.A.G.E. either directly or indirectly with Reese the Crustcrawler. Since Set 1 and Set 2 had fantastic tools to ramp, C.A.G.E. can potentially appear in a mW deck. Don’t also forget that C.A.G.E. bomb!
Although I’m really excited to finally see this card, I feel like it is too high costed to make an impact on a game. With lower stats and cost, I could see this card becoming a huge menace. Imagine it costed at even 6? If someone finds a great way to get out C.A.G.E. early, we can expect this card to be meta defining. I suppose we will see with the rest of the spoilers from Frostheart!
