Hey there, DeckOfManyThings here and I had a chance to sit down with Eaglov here at the Hex Invitational after round 3 and talk about his deck. First the tech.
4 Arcane Focus
10 Sapphire Shard
2 Sapper’s Charge
I sat down and talked with Eaglov between rounds 3 and 4 when was was 2-1 on the day guaranteeing him a spot in Sunday’s draft. He feels that he is bringing the best deck, called it “very stable”, due to the fact that it has a log or ways to draw cards and find the cards it wants. With so much draw the resources and thresholds seem to fix themselves over time.
Eaglov really built his deck expecting SOME aggro in the form of Benvolio or even Cressida, with some specific tech included for it, and expected at least 1 player to bring it. This was the reason for the inclusion of the Brown Fox Scout but beside being anti-aggro tech, that card ended up being a value card in round three with it being used to great effect to block a Mesmeric Hypnoscientist due to its ability to be played off the top of the deck and at quick speed during the attack phase.
Eaglov felt that he really didn’t like the matchup vs. Cyriius’ Spider deck. It is a “casual deck that can do bang” (in his own words). He feels that if Cyriius can stay lucky he stands a really good chance on the weekend.
He has really been on this deck since October, and hasn’t really looked seriously at anything else. He put in a good solid 5 months of testing on it and knows it backwards and forwards, has seen and experienced practically every line of play and in the end, just changed a couple cards from his standard deck based on meta predictions, grabbed his luggage and came to the 100k.
Eaglov really liked his tech of the four of on Arborean Rootfathers. He feels they are a great answer to the Vampires that have been dominating the metagame for a while now, gives you card draw and gives you a wincon all in one card. Eaglov agrees that it might just be the best card in Hex right now.
